About the role

Why join the Board at Changes?

With the recent appointment of a new Chair and CEO this is an incredibly exciting time to join our Board and positively influence the strategy and execution of mental health services across East Lothian.

As a board member, you’ll play a vital role in guiding our strategic direction.  We are especially keen to recruit at least 2 new Board members who have a background in health or social care and understand the current challenges people face with their mental health and wellbeing.

Who we need

Board members should be team players who value compassion, inclusivity, and community engagement. You should be passionate about mental health and wellbeing, with a genuine desire to make a lasting contribution.

Previous experience on a Board or within a charity is not essential but would be beneficial.  We are particularly (but not exclusively) looking for individuals from the following backgrounds:

If you’re looking for a new challenge where you can also make a real difference to the wellbeing of the local community, we’d love to hear from you.

About Changes

Changes East Lothian was established in 1996 to promote and sustain the positive wellbeing of people living in East Lothian. Growing from a community health project, Changes has developed a range of tried and tested self-help groups and courses, counselling and therapy services, mental health awareness training and suicide prevention training together with well supported volunteer opportunities, where volunteers co-facilitate groups and courses and support a wide range of wellbeing activities.

In the last year, we have supported over 900 people who have been referred to us or have self-referred and had separate enquiries on top of these from 643 people. Services are free and open to everyone over the age of 16 living, or registered with a GP, in East Lothian. Changes is client-focused and provides support for a wide range of challenges including stress, panic, low mood, low self-esteem, anxiety, worry, depression, and negative thinking.   Our Vision is that everyone in East Lothian enjoys positive mental health and wellbeing.
