Loneliness Awareness Week 2024

From the 10th to 16th June, we are getting involved with Loneliness Awareness Week. This years theme is Random Acts of Connection, which encourages the human moments of connection and social interaction, which can alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation.

What is Loneliness?

We understand that loneliness can look different for everyone. People who experience feelings of loneliness may sometimes feel isolated from communities, have a lack of social contact, and struggle to be connected to those around them. Not everyone who is lonely is necessarily alone, yet the feelings of sadness and emptiness can become overwhelming.

How can we get involved?

Tackling loneliness together is where we want to help! Whether you are struggling to leave your house, or wanting to meet new people but feel anxious on your own, support from Changes can aid your journey to self-confidence and foster a sense of belonging. Our befriending and buddy walk support can offer 1 to 1 wellbeing support, fostering a safe space to explore social settings and meet new people. Alternatively, we have an array of gentle groups that are inclusive and welcoming to everyone, including our Ponder Wanders and our Creative Connections group.

Volunteering to befriend or become a walk buddy to those who may be struggling with loneliness is a great way of giving back to the community, and improving our communities sense of connection. If you are confident speaking, have an empathetic approach to conversations, and enjoy meeting new people, then these volunteering roles might be for you!

Random Acts of Connection:

With this years theme focusing on Random Acts of Connection, we are encouraging everyone to take part and do something random this week! Whether that be phoning a family member or friend you haven’t heard from in a while, or taking some baked goods over to your neighbour, or even saying hello to people you walk past on your way to work – all acts of connection are valued!
