Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid

Description

This is a first aid course for mental health, in the way that a physical first aid course is for physical health. It will help you:

• Get the skills you need to spot common mental health symptoms in others (and yourself)
• Learn what to do until professional help is available
• Find out about the recovery from mental ill health
• Learn about the links between alcohol and drug abuse and mental health
• Understand the importance of good listening skills

The topics covered in the course include:

• Depression
• Anxiety
• Psychosis
• Addictions
• Suicide
• Self-harm

Duration

12 hours

How it works

The course can be run in blocks of 2-6 hours daily/weekly to groups of up to 15 – 24 participants. We run this course in East Lothian on behalf of the council. If you live or work in East Lothian, you are entitled to a free place. Anyone who does not live or work in East Lothian can join the course if there are spaces available at a cost of £80. You must pay this fee when booking spaces.
